As the signs around town indicate Thomas Zepecki, and Erik Brooks areon the ballot for the general election, April 1, 2014. And, unless you know the candidates personally, you might be wondering who they are. Well, I recently sat down with each candidate individually to answer that question for myself. This is what I learned.
Thomas Zepecki is the current mayor of South Milwaukee. He brings experience to the table, with nearly 30 years in city government. Zepecki’s focus is on financing, restructuring and revitalization. In connection with the South Milwaukee Community Development Authority (CDA), Zepecki oversaw the creation of four TIF Districts, brining in jobs and money to the City’s economy. During his tenure, the city has managed a balanced budget while maintaining necessary city projects. Zepecki wants to continue serving the citizens and businesses of South Milwaukee. Erik Brooks is a sitting City Alderman. He is proud of South Milwaukee’s past and optimistic about the City’s future. He believes that the City should be proud of its recent accomplishments, but needs to keep improving. Brooks believes that fresh ideas are what the City needs to make it more appealing to families and businesses. As Mayor, he would focus on investing in more City attractions and revitalize a crumbling downtown. He believes that the City government can and should do more, and he wants to lead the charge.
